By CSO European
Contributing Journalist, Christian Lamitschka.
Question: Would you please introduce yourself to the audience and tell us something about your history.
Answer: My name is Kelly Aspen and I am a contemporary country artist from Colorado. I've recently recorded an album which you can listen to at my website
and am currently touring in the Rocky Mountain region.
Question: Country Music has many new fans in Euorpe who may be learning about you for the first time. How would you describe the music you play to someone who's never seen or heard you before?
Answer: Fun, fresh, exciting and original
Question: What is your current CD and how is it doing?
Answer: I just finished my self-titled album and have receiving wonderful feedback. I wrote the entire album with exception to one song.
Question: What's your favorite song among all the songs you've recorded and what's the story behind it?
Answer: "Everything" It's a song about realizing you already have everything you need, want and love. It's about appreciating the gifts God has already given you instead of always looking somewhere else to find happiness.
Question: How much do your songs influence your audience?
Answer: I feel my song are very influential which is why I love doing it so much. I've realized music is not about me, but them. Connecting, motivating, inspiring and understanding is my purpose an I think my
audience feels that.
Question: The internet is playing a bigger and bigger part in the world of music. Has the internet hurt or helped you and how would you like to see it evolve?
Answer: The internet has helped me greatly. Getting a website was the best thing I could do to let people across town, the country, even the world hear my music instantly. I would like to see free music downloading come to an end because it's honestly hurting the whole industry. Less money in the record labels means less artists & less songs which is why we always hear the same top ten songs played over and over on the radio and why they stay their for so long. It's really hurting the listeners and aspiring artists because the labels can't sign as many new acts and the listeners miss out on some great music.
Question: Who do you look up to musically and where do your musical roots come from?
Answer: I really love John Denver. I found him to be not only talented but inspiring on how to live and treat others. However my musical style is very
similar to Sara Evans and the Dixie Chicks with a touch of Alison Krauss.
Question: What do you think about today's Country Music versus it's roots and where do you see it going in the future?
Answer: I understand why traditionalists get frustrated but I love all the mini-genres within country and feel if people are happy an entertained that's what really matters. The trends go back and forth on a pendulum and even though true country may seem to
disappear sometimes it will always come back.
Question: As an artist you have so many different things you have to do such as recording, touring, doing interviews etc. What do you like doing the best, what's your favorite activity?
Answer: I love all of it but performing and recording I would have to say I enjoy the most.
Question: Has your journey to success been a hard or an easy road?
Answer: It's been very hard. No one does it for you. You have to learn to perform, network, manage, produce, record, book, promote, ect. whether you want to or not. Only you can make it happen and it is a long, hard road.
Question: What's unique about you that differentiates you from other artists?
Answer: I have a unique voice. I don't really sound like anyone so you can tell it's me right away. Also my personality really comes through in my songs. I'm a very deep thinker but also know how to kick back and have fun.
Question: Who's your biggest critic, yourself or others?
Answer: I am my biggest critic. There is so much competition I have to make sure I'm
excelling in all aspects. I'm always looking for things to improve upon.
Question: When you get time off, how do you like to relax?
Answer: I love to drink lattes and read. I love the Rocky Mountains so I'll go camping, hiking or skiing with friends. I enjoy painting the town and going dancing but also staying home and watching movies in my pj's.
Question: Many music fans today get their information about artists via the internet. Do you have your own website and what information can the fans find out about you on the internet?
Answer: Yes, it's at www.kellyaspen.com
and you can find music, pictures, show dates, reviews and more.
Question: What message would you like to send to your European fans?
Answer: I hope someday soon I will be fortunate enough to tour Europe but until then please visit my site, listen to my songs and feel free to write me and let me know your thoughts. God bless.
