42nd Annual Academy Of Country Music Awards Highlights
By Jim Moulton

This year in Vegas, the atmosphere is very festive and upbeat with comic-style Reba McEntire as host. Carrie Underwood goes away with Album of Year "Some Hearts" and performs a riveting rendition of a song from the disc, "Seems Like Yesterday".

Miranda Lambert does the first female performance and really does a great job on her song "In A Small Town, Everyone Is Famous". Lambert wins award for best new female artist, knocking out Kelly Pickler and Taylor Swift, but it seems like she has been around too long for this award, having just released her second CD. Martina performs a really good version of her hit from her new disc "Waking Up Laughing".

Award winner for single of year, "Give It Away", George Strait sang a country ballad and should have won prettiest guitar with his custom made Taylor.

Taylor Swift with only her guitar sang "Tim McGraw" and met Tim for the first time tonight as she walked down to him singing, very cute. (She hugged Faith too) Reba then thanked our troops , leading to a standing ovation from everyone.

The very popular "Rascall Flatts" sang a nice acoustic ballad and dedicated it to the gunned down students at Virginia Tech.

Toby Keith sparked the second hour with his "Maintenance Man" having some help from some scantily clad dancers. Toby has a way with songs like that.

Brooks and Dunn were named Home Depot Humanitarian award and will be honored with playgrounds in cities of their choice. Plenty of performances tonight, twenty in all. The show was very entertaining and it was nice, keeping the awards short and performances long.
