Brent
Mason is one of the most talented guitarists
around, plus he is an "A" call Nashville studio
musician which means he is in high demand for his
talent as a hired gun. Just about any country CD in
the ninety's will have his name in the credits.
Brent can play anything from chickin pickin country
to intricate jazz improvisation.
Brent's brother
Randy is a musician too, also an excellent guitarist
(gut strings) and drums. Brad Albin joins them on
bass. Paul Hallowell is on piano.
The boys recorded
the basic tracks on a 12 track digital recorder.
They wrote most of the songs here. The title track "Smokin'
Section" is an uptempo swing song with a real jazzy
feel. Brent plays jazz as efficiently as
Wes
Montgomery, and
Randy is an excellent drummer.
Most of the tracks
have a jazzy or swing feel to them except the last
two tracks, which are definitely country twangers,
where Brent shows off his hot licks on "Strat Strut"
and "I'm Bringin' Home Good News" by
Merle Haggard.
Put on your boots for these two, they kick.
This is an
excellent recording , mastered by Dan Drilling and
mixed and produced by Brent and Randy Mason. Brian
Wampler helps Brent out with his
guitar
effects, Brent is now using the prototype of
a new compression pedal called "The Ego Squasher".
You can get the CD now from Brent's website or
Randy's or Brian Wamplers website. I highly
recommend this disc for anyone who likes
great
guitar playing.
