Swingin' For Charity - Tracy Lawrence Hosts 15th Annual Golf Classic
By: Jim Weaver, CSO Editor-in-Chief
4/22/09

It was sunny and in the mid-seventies with a little breeze this past Monday for the shotgun start of the 15th Annual Golf Classic to benefit the Tracy Lawrence Foundation. With all the rain the Ark-La-Tex has experienced the last several weeks the greens and fairway at the Texarkana Golf Ranch were quite subdued... and yet I had no trouble at all losing my balls in the rough or water hazards of this fantastic course. Apparently hitting the ball straight helps... a lot!

Check out Kicker 102.5's Mario Garcia doing an interview with Tracy Lawrence.

The Tracy Lawrence Foundation has supported a number of charitable organizations and contributed to various community and educational facilities including assembling and equipping a computer lab for Tracy's alma mater, Foreman High School; constructing an outdoor pavilion for Watersprings Ranch, a home for abused and neglected children dedicated to restoring their childhood; being an active, repeat sponsor for the Alzheimer's Walk in Texarkana (Tracy is also the national spokesperson for the Alzheimer's Association); sponsoring the local CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) which places abandoned and abused children with foster parents; funding two scholarships to assist with housing, food, books and tuition expenses for students at Texarkana College and Southern Arkansas University; and providing funding for books at Foreman Public Library.

To say the least, everyone had a wonderful time on a beautiful day in deep East Texas playing golf and raising money for a great cause. Some got trophies, not my team mind you, but some did. The team I played on, known as the "Tracy II" team, was unfortunately held back by one lousy player, and with any luck at all... I'll be back again to screw up another team next year.
