Charlie Likes Mike, Dog Does Regina and Fainting for Brooks & Dunn
It’s been a dog’s age since I’ve written, but I think you’ll find it was well worth the wait. The last month has been a whirlwind of parties, trips and hobnobbing with country music’s elite and I have a ton of juicy gossip to share with you.
After years of hanging around the Canadian country music scene, I finally went to the Canadian Country Music
Awards. I worked at the awards and so had to watch the show on a small backstage monitor rather than from the comfort of the Brandt Centre stands. There were, however, some perks to hanging out backstage, right next to the area where all the presenters were ushered onto the stage.
I had a very nice chat with Mike
Holmes (right), of Holmes on Homes fame, while Charlie Major stood nearby. The pair were slated to present the awards for
"Group or Duo of the Year" together and while they both wore overalls and a white shirt, Mike definitely won on the hotness scale. Charlie donned the 'outfit' in an attempt to be funny and emulate Mike’s handyman persona, but try as he may, he couldn't compete with Mike's obvious 'assets'. The duds looked sexy on the handyman while they made Charlie look like a yokel. But hey, don’t take my word for it. The clip is up on YouTube posted by a guy whose handle just happens to be ‘charliebmajor.’ Coincidence? I think not.
While there, I also had the high honor of meeting Dog the Bounty Hunter and his wife. Yes, that’s right. Dog and Beth Chapman
(left) were two of the Canadian Country Music Award’s more ‘colorful’ presenters this year. The flashy duo – yes, her boobs really are that big, her manicured nails are that long and Duane ‘Dog’ Chapman, really does love his ‘women trashy’ (Her words, not mine!) – were in town to promote Dog’s memoir
You Can Run But You Can’t Hide which, by the way, debuted at the top of the New York Times bestseller list.
They were all smiles and big hair when they went up there to proclaim their love for, as he put it, “country and western music” but Dog and Beth’s trip to Regina was not without some controversy. The couple reportedly ‘stirred up’ some noise on board an Air Canada flight. They had barely touched the ground when local city police were called, having been alerted there were problems aboard the flight. A source who works at the airport tells me Beth apparently got into an argument with one of the stewardesses. Once they disembarked, the pair took off for their hotel before the cops showed up.
After the show, CMT’s Paul McGuire interviewed the Chapman’s on the CCMA after-party red carpet. I asked to snap a picture of the stars and our crew, and just as I was poised to take it, a leather clad Beth said to me “Get in here for this picture, little sister!” and she ushered me to take my place in front of the camera, right smack in the middle of the shot. So, I don’t care what anybody says, Beth Chapman is a classy lady.
All right. So what's this about fainting for Brooks & Dunn, you ask? Picture this. Girl sitting at the bar of her favorite watering hole, watching TV. In walk two hot cowboys and they sidle up next to her. Do I have your attention, yet? Good. So, imagine I’m that girl and that the two guys are Brooks & Dunn. Still with me? I
poop you not. It really happened. I starred in a CMT Canada promo for Brooks & Dunn’s upcoming One On One special. Here’s the skinny.
A couple of hot looking cowboys (Ronnie Dunn and Kix Brooks ) sidle up to girl (yours truly) at the bar. “Whatcha got going on there?” Ronnie says.
“Watching One On One With Brooks & Dunn on CMT,” I reply, never turning my gaze away from the television set.
“Those guys are pretty big,” Kix adds, referring to Brooks & Dunn who can be seen on the TV screen. “Big?” I scoff, never looking over. “They’re huge.”
“I hear they’re good looking guys, too.” Ronnie adds. “Yeah, there all right.” I continue. “And they sure can sing.” I look over, realize Brooks and Dunn are actually STANDING there, right next to me and faint.
We did five takes, each shot from a different angle, and I had a blast! They treated me like a rock star, teased me about my 'acting', shook my hand and were generally cool, funny and charming. They're even better looking in person, much taller and thinner than I expected and the One on One special on CMT
guarantees to entertain. The guys are hilarious and have the kind of easy back and forth banter that only comes with years of working and collaborating with someone. I think I’m in love. With
Ronnie. The blonde one....of course.
Their latest disc, Cowboy Town hits stores on this week. It's "where the Stones meet the cowboys," Ronnie Dunn says when he tells people about the disc. The album features electric guitars and enough tequila, cowgirls and leather boots to fill a Texas
pool hall. The first single, 'Proud of the House We Built" is No. 4 on the Billboard country chart. Mick Jagger in a Stetson. I like the sound of that.
Well, that’s it for now. Until next time, remember, it’s not what they say about you, it’s what they whisper.
