Kellie Channels Dolly, Nicole Pole
Dances and Shania Tops The List
One
more ingénue falls prey to the ‘Hollywood Measure Stick’. Or
should we call it the ‘Nashville Cup Size’?

Cause,
call me crazy, but I’m pretty sure Kellie Pickler’s had a breast
augmentation. Last week on Idol, when Ryan Seacrest asked Kellie
what she’s been spending her money on, she said, “shoes”. His
answer? (As he looked pointedly at the twins…) “Just shoes?”
Then
when she turned around they slapped me right in the face. It can’t just be
a few extra pounds gained and a great bra. And what’d you think of
the hair? For those of you who didn’t see it, Kellie sported a curly,
bleach blond ‘do’ reminiscent of Dolly Parton’s locks circa
1976.
Speaking
of Dolly, Dollywood is busy putting the finishing touches on
"Mystery Mine," the park's new $17.5 million steel roller coaster,
the first ride of its kind in the U.S.
Passengers
on the ride maneuver several high-speed twists as the miner cars travel
through a series of uncertain encounters, including a fall from a collapsed
trestle and a plunge into a dark and abandoned tunnel.
The
cars will speed through at 60 miles an hour and feature one heart-line roll,
one rollover loop and vertical drops of up to 95 feet! Laugh yourself
silly or scream like a schoolgirl for what’ll feel like the longest two
and a half minutes of your life.
Tickets
for the CMT Music Award show in Nashville April 16th went on sale
last week. This is the show the artists love because the all the awards
except one, Video of the Year, are voted on by fans. Already set to perform
are Kenny Chesney, Tim McGraw, Carrie Underwood, Martina,
Dierks Bentley and Sugarland.
Rascal
Flatts will open the show and the song they’ll sing is up to the
voters. The choices are “Life Is A Highway”, “Me And My Gang” and
“Fast Cars And Freedom.” You can vote now at cmt.com
Canadian
fans, my spies tell me CMT Canada will be running a really cool contest
during the live broadcast and rumor has it the prize’ll be a trip to New
York City to see Martina McBride. I’ll keep you posted on the
details as I get them.
Singer
Mariah Carey was in a Nashville honky tonk last week shooting scenes
for her latest movie, "Tennessee,” in which she plays an aspiring
songwriter.
According
to the Music City's WKRN-TV, an extra said that’s where they shot the
final scene of the film, where Mariah’s character goes to a writer’s
night. She co-wrote on the songs she sings in the film with Willie Nelson. The
extra also told the TV station that Mariah seemed friendly, but that the
movie extras were told not to talk to her.
The
sad thing is, Mariah probably has no idea her people told everyone to stay
away. Big stars are so sheltered, they have no idea what outrageous
requests are made on their behalf.
According
to the Smoking Gun, Mariah’s rider includes two hot air humidifiers, Diet
Coke, Cristal, champagne glasses, and bendy straws. You can take the girl
out of Massapequa…
It
wouldn’t be a gossip column if there weren’t at least one tidbit or two
about Keith and Nicole. Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban are
on a romantic cruise from the West Indies, on the island of St. Barts.
Paparazzi caught them in a passionate kiss on their yacht and they shot Nic
grabbing a support pole then dancing around it and singing, before grabbing
a kiss from Keith.
I
must say I didn’t think ‘The Freeze’ had it in her. Way to go,
Nicole! Just goes to show that under the coldest facades burn the
hottest fires. Onlookers said they looked like honeymooners.
And
finally, the "Definitive 200" list of albums and soundtracks was
released last week by NARM (National Association of Recording Merchandisers)
and recognized by the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame.
Shania
Twain is the highest ranking country
act on the big list, with 1997's Come On Over ranked at No. 21.
Three
Dixie Chicks albums made the tally. 1998's Wide Open
Spaces at number 33, 2002's Home coming in at 100 and
1999's FLY in at 113.
Willie
Nelson's 1975 album Red Headed Stranger is number 143 on the
list, with his 1978 release, Stardust landing at 192.
Other
country acts that made the Definitive list: 1999's Faith Hill album, Breathe came in at number 76 and Johnny Cash’s 1968
classic, Johnny Cash at Folsom Prison ranked 77th.
In
case you’re wondering, The Beatles' 1967 album, Sgt. Pepper's
Lonely Hearts Club Band, topped the list.
Until
next time, it’s not what they say about you, it’s what they whisper.
