Carrie’s
on Top, Shania’s Wanaka House and Billy’s New Love
Carrie
Underwood topped the country airplay charts once again last week with
her fourth single, “Wasted,” carving out a little chunk of history for
herself. Apparently, she becomes the first female country artist to achieve
four No. 1 singles from a debut album. A milestone not even Shania Twain
has accomplished during her career.
The
other three chart toppers from Carrie's Some Hearts CD were
"Jesus, Take the Wheel," "Don't Forget to Remember Me"
and "Before He Cheats."
And
she accomplished all that without dressing like a tramp or marrying a record
producer. Kellie Pickler should take a page from her book. Meow!
Carrie
will grace the cover of the May issue of Cosmopolitan magazine. She told the
mag that since American Idol it “all seems like a crazy dream”, but that
she's trying stay grounded. She added, that like a lot of her
contemporaries, she likes to go clubbing once in a while, but that she also
likes “to sit at home with my dog and do normal people things. I love
doing laundry. I love buying groceries."
Guys,
Carrie’s favorite junk food is pizza but don’t try winning any favors by
getting her a slice. She says she feels guilty every time she has the
stuff. And, I’m sure you noticed she’s lost weight since she was on the
show. Weight she says she lost by working out.
“I
gained weight on the show (American Idol),” she said, “but I didn't
starve myself afterward. I may think about it a little too much. I might
feel guilty if I eat a pizza. But I've tried to be healthy and exercise as
much as I can. If that's made me lose weight, I guess I needed to."
Cause being a size 4 just wasn’t small enough. I met Carrie, before she
became all Hollywood skinny, and believe me, she did not need to lose
any weight.
She
also told Cosmo she thanks braces for her great smile, she’s addicted to
cheese, she loves to sleep in, she’d never date a guy who didn’t like
dogs and that if she weren’t a country star, she’d be a journalist.
Shania
Twain, who would farm sheep if she weren’t a country star, no wait,
she’s already doing that, but I digress. Shania, husband Mutt Lange
and their son Eja, will be spending part of the upcoming year living in
Switzerland and the other part in a trailer while their New Zealand estate
is being built. Shania and Mutt have spent over 21 million on it.
Since
the property is in a national park, they’re only allowed a one-level house
with two guest cottages, a garage and horse facility. Gee, that sucks. No
private gym or recording studio for those digs. Every builder involved has
had to sign a confidentiality agreement and was warned that there are to be
no photos. Of course, someone must have forgotten to tell the paparazzi that
taking photos of the property is a no-no, because a few photos of the estate
have surfaced nonetheless. Check them out at the following link.

Another
legendary country home has been under scrutiny this past week. Well,
what’s left of it anyway. A fire totally destroyed the historic home of Johnny
Cash last week in Hendersonville, TN. It was in the final stages of
renovation by its new owner, Bee Gee Barry Gibb. Fire trucks arrived
in five minutes, but the house was already engulfed and by the time they got
the fire out, the only thing left were the brick chimneys and steel frame.
Barry
and his wife Linda spent a fortune restoring the place and never even got to
move in.
Kenny
Chesney will be doing a lot of moving in the upcoming months. In fact,
he’ll be moving a few times a week for months on end on his upcoming
"Flip Flop Summer Tour."
Each
move will involve 12 tons of speaker cabinets for the in-door shows and that
number will go up to 18 tons for the stadium shows. Also included will be a
new high-tech screen that weighs in at another five tons.
It’ll
take 16 trucks to move it all, and a designated tractor-trailer for all the
t-shirts, as well as a fully-equipped mobile catering kitchen for the staff.
And with 97 people on the road (including a pastry chef) and another 100 or
so local folks for the arena shows, the kitchen staff with have their hands
full.
Kenny
will also have Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Joe Walsh along for the
ride. Joe, formerly with the Eagles, has worked his guitar magic with
the likes of Warren Zevon, Rod Stewart, Ringo Starr, Michael McDonald
and countless others.
“I
don’t think there’s anybody in the world who doesn’t know ‘Life’s
Been Good To Me’ or ‘Rocky Mountain Way’ if they’ve listened to any
rock radio at all,” Kenny said, visibly thrilled about Joe’s addition to
the tour.
And
finally, Billy Currington also has a new band member out on the road
with him this year - a 9-week old chocolate Labrador retriever puppy called
Paco.
Billy
bought the pup from a breeder in Minnesota and he’s already working with
Paco on his basic obedience commands. Billy reports that the training is
going well. Earlier this week Paco made it through the whole night without
any "accidents." Now, if he could only train the crew…
Until
next time, it’s not what they say about you, it’s what they whisper.
