Kelly Outsings Reba, Faith is Jealous of
Taylor and Miranda is a Brat
I love award shows. The
lights, the bling and, of course, the clothes are the main reasons I watch. Throw
in a few sexy cowboys, some great country music and an entertaining host and
I’ll sit through four, five hours of the stuff.
So,
I was thrilled when I found out Reba would be hosting the ACM awards again
this year. She has hosted a record-breaking nine times, and is it me,
or does she look younger than she did 20 years ago? I have got to get
the name of her plastic surgeon. Not that I, I mean, you know… just in
case. And the girls looked bigger, too. I hear you have to have
those things replaced every 10 years or so. I guess she decided to go
for an upgrade this time around. But I digress. So Reba hosted once
again and low and behold, she was introduced by the queen of country, Miss
Shania Twain herself. Which means – you guessed it! – we can expect
a new Shania Twain album in the upcoming year.
Back to Reba. She and
Kelly Clarkson performed a duet of Kelly’s, “Because of You”, that
fell pretty flat. No doubt intended to promote Reba’s duet album, I
think the performance did her a disservice. She sang all the really
“big” parts, and although she has a great voice, Reba does not have a
big enough voice to pull off a Kelly Clarkson hit. Sorry, Reba. Thumbs
down on that one.
Carrie
Underwood’s date was quarterback Tony Romo whom she kissed on the mouth
when she won Female Vocalist. Every time the camera panned to him, he was
making googly eyes at her. She looked amazing and went through as many
outfit changes as Reba. She raked in three awards for Top Female
Vocalist, Album of the Year and Video of the Year.
When she accepted her third
award of the evening, Carrie said, "I'd like to thank God for giving me
so much that I do not deserve. And I'm crying again, because this is what I
do at awards shows, so I'm sorry... My friends, my family, fans, thank you.
God bless you. And, of course, the place that started it all…I would not
be here if it weren't for American Idol."
Gretchen
Wilson dumped her trademark tank top and jeans for a little black dress she
ordered online from Frederick’s of Hollywood. It’s the glitter mesh baby
doll dress and it’s on sale for $29.99. One thing’s for sure,
success hasn’t changed this frugal Walmart shopper.
By the way, have you see
Gretchen’s new video? She struts around in a bikini top and cut off
jeans and hot bod and super tight abs put all of those emaciated Hollywood
Bimbettes to shame.
The
sweetest moment of the night was Taylor Swift walking over to Tim McGraw and
singing her song to him. Then she shook his hand and hugged him - they had
never met before. She also hugged a newly blonde Faith Hill who was fiercely
hanging on to hubby Tim. Relax Faith. Taylor is 17 years old for
Pete’s sake. She is not after your husband. The little vixen, er,
I mean, Taylor, is going on tour with Tim and Faith this summer so Faith
better get used to having her hanging around.
Tim McGraw's performance was
well…he was Tim. If you’re a fan, I’m sure it was nothing short
of amazing. Personally, I don’t get it. I don’t care how hot he is,
he bores me to death. Although, I must say that even though I’m not
gaga for the man, I do have a lot of respect for Tim. He did a song
about military heroes and when he finished the camera revealed family
members of fallen military heroes sitting behind him on stage. Tim paid all
their expenses so they could be there.
Miranda
Lambert attended the ceremonies with boyfriend Blake Shelton, but he missed
her victory. She says, “he went to the bathroom just as I was winning, so
I had nobody to hug.” Maybe that’s why she seemed so unimpressed with
the win. Seriously. Her first award ever and she had
‘whatever’ written all over her face.
I loved watching Sugarland
perform on that moving airport sidewalk. I would have loved to have
been a fly on the wall during rehearsals. I’ve never attempted
dancing on a moving sidewalk but my foot caught the side of a treadmill once
and it sent me flying clear across the room.
And finally, Hillary Clinton
wants you to pick her campaign theme song, and Shania’s "Rock This
Country" is in the running. Head to HillaryClinton.com to vote for it.
Until next time, remember, “It’s not
what they say about you, it’s what they whisper.”
