Celine vs Shania: The Woman In
Me…Too.
Celine
Dion’s new album won’t take its name from Shania Twain’s
1995 smash hit The Woman in Me after all. The Quebec singer’s
first English CD in three years, due out November 13th, will be
titled Taking Chances, according to a select group of fans who got a
preview in Las Vegas this week.
Last week, Celine told USA
Today the album would be called The Woman in Me, sparking a
Celine vs. Shania debate online.
Heck, it worked for Shania.
Her 1995 album, titled The Woman in Me, sold more than 10 million
copies, grabbed a Grammy and catapulted the small-town Ontario singer to
worldwide fame.
So, you can’t really blame
Canada's other internationally celebrated female vocalist to want in
on some of that action. Not that she really needed it. I mean, Celine
Dion is richer than God, isn’t she?
"I think this album
represents a positive evolution in my career," Celine said of her new
album. “I'm feeling strong, maybe a little gutsier than in the past,
and just as passionate about music and life as I ever was."
Proposing to give her new
album the same name as Shania’s biggest success was definitely a gutsy
move. Can you say, “Catfight!?” Who do you think would win
that one? My money’s on Celine. Take it from this French girl,
when push comes to shove, French women fight dirty. And Celine’s got
some good pointy little fists on her. She’d tear Shania’s little
veggie ass.
I can see it now...Rene
Angelil and Mutt Lange watching benevolently from the VIP area of
the boxing arena Maman Dion, Rene Jr. and Eja in tow,
the cheap seats bursting with loud and obnoxious Jean-Guis and Ginettes
lashing out at equally loud and obnoxious Jim and Cathy's below them.
The lights come up, and
there, in the centre of the ring, wearing the traditional black and white
referee jersey…Canada’s milk-toast host with the most, Ben Mulroney.
“Let's get ready to
rumble!!!!!”
“In the right corner, from
Sudbury, Ontario, weighing in at 110 pounds, out with a vengeance, 41-year
old SHANIA TWAIN! And in the left corner, from Charlemagne, Quebec,
weighing in at 90 pounds, feeling stronger than ever, 39-year old CELINE
DION!” Ding!
Oh, man. Seriously,
those two just need get together, shake hands and go eat a burger...and
maybe a cookie or two.
Until next time remember,
“it’s not what they say about you, it’s what they whisper.”
