Music from and Inspired by Desperate Housewives

September 25 at 8 p.m. central time - chances are good that you were, along with half the country, glued to your television set waiting to see what would happen when Mike arrived home to find Zach holding Susan hostage and had to find a way to rescue them both. Meanwhile Lynette was interviewing for an account executive position at a top ad agency, now that Tom has agreed to stay home with the kids. Her boss, Nina (guest star Joely Fisher), was skeptical about hiring a mother of four, so Lynette made a big effort to impress her. Rex's mother, Phyllis (guest star Shirley Knight), came in for his funeral and to drive Bree crazy. And Gabrielle, feeling guilty about her unfaithfulness, dutifully begins visiting Carlos in jail.

Well, now that the season premiere of Desperate Housewives has aired and we all know what happened to Zach, Susan, Mike and the rest of the folks on Wisteria Lane, let me tell you about a delightful new album that was inspired by the music from this series.

The artists who perform on Music from and Inspired by Desperate Housewives are as beautiful and as mega talented as the stunning cast of the series. LeAnn Rimes, Sara Evans, Martina McBride, SheDaisy and Shania Twain are the "country" artists who joined forces with Anna Nalick, Liz Phair, Indigo Girls, Joss Stone, Macy Gray, Gloria Estefan, Idina menzel, k.d. lang and Danny Elfman to record the fourteen songs on this terrific album. Interspersed between the songs are actual dialog from the first season of the series. The album, like the series, is a delightfully decadent pleasure.

Approximately half of the songs are wonderful covers of old classics and the other half are new songs, previously unreleased; inspired by the series. Several of the songs on the album are cued by brief, but intriguingly tantalizing, sound clips from the actual TV scripts and all of the songs tie in perfectly.

After a brief introduction from the deceased Mary Alice (bet that peaked your interest), SheDaisy kicks off the album with an energetic and enjoyable rendition of "God Bless the American Housewife" that sets the tone and perfectly encapsulates the theme of "Desperate Housewives." There are so many good songs on this album that it really is difficult to pick just one favorite. LeAnn Rimes should be able to climb both the country and the pop charts with "We're Running Out of Time" and Sara Evans delivers the Shel Silverstein penned "One's On the Way" with a degree of spunk that perfectly embodies the sassy characters of Wisteria Lane.

Idina Menzel will have you playing air guitar along with her spunky rendition of "Damsel in Distress," co-written by Jaime O'Neal, Pat Murphy and Jimmy Murphy while Shania Twain's "Shoes" is a clever ditty that good-naturedly compares men to shoes. This sassy prose is delivered with a depth of attitude that only Shania could conjure up and it is certain to get the boot scooters moving on the dance floor.

Some of the more familiar tunes included on the CD are "Band of Gold," "Mother's Little Helper," "Mrs. Robinson," "Harper Valley PTA", and "Dream of the Everyday Housewife." The final cut is the "Desperate Housewives Theme," written and sung by Danny Elfman. It is the ideal ending for this unique musical collection and the best part is that you don't have to be a fan of the series to enjoy the album.

I only heard two songs... Shania's song "Shoes", that song made no sense!!!! I also heard from her www.shania.com that they used her to make the CD cut. I heard Martina's song... that was awesome. I haven't bought the CD or have any attentions in doing. I am looking forward to getting some singles off it:)
