CD Review by Cheryl H. Hill
CD
Review:
"What
you see is what you get, what you get is what you see. No, I ain't tryin'
to fool no one. God knows I'm proud to be... country." (Quote from Billy
Yates; CD liner notes.)
After listening to the entire album; I believe Billy Yates and
man oh man do I ever love music that makes me feel good, lifts my
spirits and gets my feet to involuntarily tappin'. Country
is chock full of great music and equally great lyrics. From the first
song on the CD to the last I was in honky-tonk, hip swayin', head
bobbin', toe tappin', true country heaven.
Yates songwriting ability is equal to his wonderful singing. The
fourteen songs on this CD are proof of that fact since he had a hand in
writing every one. In addition to his accomplishments as a singer and
songwriter he is also a renowned artist. Among his best known
alternative artistic endeavors are murals that he painted on two of
George Jones' tour buses.
My favorite song on this album is "Dreaming Out Loud." In my
humble opinion, this song has all the qualities of a number one hit ...
but then I may have just been influenced by the wave of nostalgia that
rushed over me while I was listening to it. It certainly is reminiscent
of many country music classics.
Yates has been writing for other artists for quite some time and has
been recorded by some of the biggest names in country music today. He
has been nominated for a Grammy and has already won a CMA award but he
says that his "biggest reward is touching someone's heart with a
song." Well, kudos Mr. Yates 'cause your music certainly had no
difficulty in touching mine.
Among
the songs recorded by other artists are:
I Don't Need Your Rockin' Chair - George Jones
From Good To Bad To Worse To Gone - Ricochet
God's Green Earth - Tracy Lawrence
If You Ever Want My Lovin' - Sara Evans
I've Got A Quarter In My Pocket - Gary Allan
Turn For The Worse - Kenny Chesney

Review by Jim Weaver:
Even though it starts off with a Flash Page, you do have the option to
skip it, so I am appeased. As for the rest of the site... nice work! The
only thing that I consider major that's missing is a photo album for
concert pics, fan pics and the like. Otherwise Billy's site is well
designed, easy to navigate, has most of the goodies fans want, including
a FREE online Fan Club, and it does have plenty of photos of Billy all
through it. Give your webmaster a raise!
