Review:
So when you put some though
behind who is the biggest country female star in the last few years, who
comes to mind? There are only two that have had any real chart success
over the last two years; one is Terri Clark and the other has a
new CD in stores and is pictured right there -> .... Martina
McBride. Oh sure Shania's a huge star but from her latest CD Up
she's only been able to crack the top 10 twice and hasn't had a #1 song
in a long time. What about Faith you say? What about her, I don't know
what she's doing these days, but it ain't country. She's having a hard
time getting a song into the Top 20 on the country charts. Nope, one of
the very few big country female stars to stay the course with country
music is Martina and thank God for that. I'm not saying that she hasn't
dabbled into the pop stuff, she has, but so far she keeps coming back
down to earth and sticking to her country roots. Her new CD titled Martina
is right where she needs to be, belting out some contemporary country,
some traditional and even some bluegrass. Martina says in her bio; “The
thing is, I just love where I am right now in my career,” she says.
“I love country music. I don’t ever feel restricted by the genre.
I’ve been able to have a solid career that we’ve built one step at a
time and a family. I know that I’m in a good place.”
One
of my favorite songs on this CD is "Reluctant Daughter",
written by Sally Barris and Jon Vezner and arranged by Ricky Skaggs so
you know it has a little Grassy feel to it, and it does, and it's great!
This is Martina's eighth studio album and it continues to build on her
already rock-solid country music career. If you love Martina, you
probably already have this one in your collection, if you like Martina,
you'll like her even more after you hear this CD.

Review by Jim Weaver:
Martina's
website is one of the better artist sites you'll find on the web. Her
webmaster Darren does a great job without using FLASH files bigger than
Dallas to pull it off. Colorful, great pics of Martina, downloads, huge
Message Board, fun Chat Room and much more! The music clips are a link
to CMT.com which I don't get but at least they're available. I was a
little disappointed at first when I couldn't find more pictures of
Martina with fans, in concert and the like but when I asked about that
in the chat room (which was very busy I might add) the chatters told me
to check out the Picture Postings on the Message Board... I was
disappointed no more. The only thing I can find missing from the site is
a links page so they can thank other websites that write nice things
about them, but I won't count that against them.
