Rhonda
Vincent - One Step Ahead
One of the things I love about bluegrass music is the fact that there aren't any fakers... everybody plays and everybody sings. It doesn't matter if it's a small local show, a monster-grass festival or on stage at the Grand Ole Opry, the bluegrass artists give it their all every time you see them perform. This CD is no exception. Rhonda herself has been fiddling and pickin' around the Bluegrass stage for a long time, and she's got the accolades to prove it, from winning the Missouri State Fiddle Championship in 1973 to the IBMA (International Bluegrass Music Association) 2002 Female Vocalist of the Year award and many more! (Note: She must have won the Fiddle Championship when she was 2!) If you want to hear some sample cuts of each song on the CD you need to go to her Record Company's site Rounder Records. This is Rhonda's third CD with Rounder and you can tell by reading her bio that she has a great relationship with her label, something that's hard to find sometimes. The timing of this CD couldn't be more perfect considering the resurgence of "roots" music thanks to the O Brother soundtrack. From traveling tunes to beautiful ballads, impeccable harmonies to amazing instrumentals it's all here and more. Even the Martha White Flour jingle. (Martha White is one of the main sponsors of last years and her current tour). I'm not the hardest guy in the world to please when it comes to music, I like all kinds. When it's good I'll tell you, when it's bad, I'll tell you... this is very good. Rating: Buy it! Please visit Rhonda's website for yourself. |
