Suzanne Karr
By Jim Weaver
Since
this is the month of love, I thought I would bring you a lovely
lady who's voice I love. If you haven't lost your lunch keep
reading, I promise... no more Valentines references. Suzanne Karr is
a fellow Houston, Texas native, which elevates her on my personal
chart, who now resides in Nashville. Even though I'm sure she misses
Texas, as we all do when we leave the Lone Star State, she now lives
right where she should be to show off her powerful voice.
Karr moved to Nashville in 2002 after
fronting some very successful Texas touring bands including The
Emotions. She has been honing her skills, writing her music, and
getting into the studio every chance she gets. She doesn't have a
record deal or website yet but you can hear her sing on her myspace
site and I highly recommend that you do.
Talent that runs this deep cannot be
contained forever, if you have a myspace site, put Suzanne Karr on
your friends list and keep your eyes and ears open. If you don't
have a myspace site that's ok, because when she breaks out, we'll
let you know about it right hear in the pages of CSO. Good things
are going to happen for this pretty little Texas gal with the great
big voice.

Rebecca Frederick - Mud,
Sweat & Tears
By George Peden
After
I caught my breath last year, being totally excited with the music
of newcomer, Taylor Swift, another take-notice talent is on the
radar. Her name: Rebecca Frederick. And like Swift, Frederick is
talented. Edgy, polished, and with a voice destined for radio and
headlining shows, Nashville’s latest is grabbing nods and acclaim
with her mostly self-penned release on Heartland Records, Mud,
Sweat & Tears.
While little is known
about Frederick (note to Publicity: start cranking out the bio and
info –sure is hard to share when there’s little to tell);
however, all is not lost, as here at CSO we can paint some history
– check this
out.
This young lady can
sing. There’s no Hicksville country backblocks warbling here.
Frederick is confident, melodic and claims the microphone with a
determination that makes every tune special, every song enjoyable.
With a constant stream of banal boredom masquerading as country
music on radio these days, courtesy of churn factories bent on
profit and sales rather than establishing long-term talent,
Frederick is a pleasing breakaway.
She paints her tunes
with lyrical intensity and a knowing that comes from having written
the subject matters of love, loss and the ability, as covered in
standout cut ‘I Wanna Live Like That”, to teach us a lesson or
two.
Effortlessly stylish,
Fredrick is more Tucker than Twain, a little more Gretchen than
Faith, but the vocal mix is solid and fetching. She can pound
rockier tunes like “Reach Up”, the radio possibility “Lovin’
In The Mud” and the infectious “No Ordinary Love”, while smoldering
easy on “Broken Heart” and the tear-jerking “Never Knew”. If
you want a word, try versatile to snapshot Fredrick’s talent.
Nashville's Collin
Raye nails it when he gives the endorsement: “A voice that’s
going to blow you away!”
For now Rebecca
Frederick is waiting in the wings. But it’s only temporary. Trust
us and remember where you heard it.
