Savannah Jack
By Jim Weaver
I
listen to a LOT of music, a ton of artists, mostly soloists, a few
bands here and there, but what I'm always on the lookout for is that
one artist or band that compels me to sit down at my computer and
share them with you right when I hear them for the first time. With
that in mind, I invite you to meet Savannah Jack.
Don
Gatlin, Jay Darby, and Mike Ulvila are the members of this fine trio
that cranks out some amazing harmonies in a very stylistic and
modern way. Their bio describes the band's sound as a somewhere
between Black Hawk and the Gatlin Brothers... and I agree, in fact ,
those two bands came to mind when I first heard them even before I
read the bio. HMMM... Gatlin Brothers... Don Gatlin... I
wonder.
Judging
by their MySpace page these guys are spending a lot of time in
Vegas, I'm sure they're making a good living doing it too, but I'm
thinkin' they need to get their collective keesters back to
Nashville and start impressing some record folk. Because they will.
There
have been many fine groups in country music over the decades, safe
to say that Alabama is at the top of that list, and while Rascal
Flatts has firmly taken the reigns as today's super group... who will
be next? I don't know either, but it wouldn't hurt to keep an eye on
Savanna Jack.
The
Savannah Jack website is under construction so for now, it's

Rachel
Lilliott
By George Peden
A
small town girl she may be. But for Rachel Lilliott who hails from
Manchester, Georgia, the welcoming neon of Nashville is calling. And
the way her current radio singles are being received it may not be
too long before Music Row offers a contract pen.
For
this singer and songwriter who cites the Dixie Chicks, Matraca Berg
and Dolly Parton, among others, as steering guides, her future
is starting to take clear shape. From her apprenticeship in the
church choir, to her first country concert with Reba to the defining
moment on hearing Trisha Yearwood sing “She’s In Love With The
Boy”, Lilliott has chased her dream of being a country star.
Now
with her own Myspace site, Lilliott is showcasing four tunes. The
music, the voice, the mood and the writing style all suggest Rachel
Lilliott is a wings waiter with a curtain call close. With the radio
popular “Picture of Love”, with it’s tale of chronological
love, Lilliott has quickly claimed industry notice. The other
showcased tunes – “Only One You”, “Georgia Heat” and
“It’s My Time” – are toe-tappers that would make notice on a
debut album – when, rather than should, Lilliott gets the call to
bring that pen and sign.
Record
execs with a keen ear and a keener sense for talent would do well to
point and click. Just remember your mates here at CSO – we told
you first.
